Description & Details
Framed art from Squaxin Island artist Mike Krise along with prints by NW favorites Elton Bennett and Eldon Butts.
Mike krise friends span from his tribal roots and continue through the non tribal community. An ambassador of sorts He shares customs of the Native America's and is equally comfortable with non tribal families. Coined "Uncle Mike" due to his friendly demeanor and being known by everyone in the area. This sale provides a rare chance to actually acquire some of his stuff. His sister manages the tribes Museum and Learning Center and gobbles up nearly everything he produces. His art reaches beyond the normal tribal art and includes sharing some of the little know myths or history of the tribe. Unique to anyone else Mike manages to find the humor in some of his stuff which is sure to be desired well beyond his time. Mike is 73 years old and recently had a kidney removed. This has contributed to his inability to continue to dive for gooey duck, fish for salmon, dig clams all creating an absence of revenue. He really appreciates the interest his art has always brought and I see increased energy and desire to continue producing art for us. Hope you will find some pieces you will cherish forever and I am happy to see some stuff escape the tribes grip.
100's of jewelry pieces were collected By Katie Byrns during the1960's 70's and 80's and intended to be gifted to friends and family. Her shopping preference locally was Nordstrom along with Maier & Frank and Fredrick & Nelson. She also took a number of trips abroad allowing her to gather costume jewelry from Hong Kong, Thailand, China, Mexico along with items from her other residence on Maui, Hawaii. All the jewelry is new and much of it retains the original price tags. It was all stored in their respective boxes until i began to combine pieces to be sold as lots. Katie from her 40 years at a large Rexall drug store and her unmistakable interest she showed in anyone she meet resulted in 100's if not 1000's of friendships. After passed away on Maui they held a service for her months later in Western Washington and in a time funerals rarely draw much attendance 100's of mourners were left outside unable to fit in a already packed church. Each item you see could be imagined as if it were always intended for you. She would be so happy for you to have it.
Her daughter had a different passion. When she took possession of something she would enjoy it briefly and be compelled to safely package it and store it away. Most things here have sat untouched for decades until her recent passing. A great example is her doll collection. With that same desire to share jewelry, Katie gave a number of dolls to Roylene between 1939 and 1942. She played with them briefly, in some cases as few as a couple days then packed them safely and stored them away. Most of the dolls have sat untouched for 85 years. A theory of the best collecting practices is shown by card collectors. If you always buy something that is in better condition than any other like it you will always prevail. An accomplished doll collector saw some of the dolls and said they were the finest examples she had every seen. Time won't allow a few dolls to be listed in this sale but if you are a serious collector approach me at one of the pick up locations.
She has contributed pottery like Toby Mugs and Irish Porcelain, glassware from Blenko and a variety of mason jars, quality Pyrex or Fire King cookware and cups and other collectables guaranteed to have seen little use.
Finally there are a variety of other stuff from a amazing flat rock collection, to a 42,000 btu RV furnance to antique tools and whatever else that's here. .
