Description & Details
A
Mid Century Modern
Architect’s Estate
Presented in a Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired home designed and built in 1960 by one of Tacoma’s renowned Architect where he resided for the over six decades, this home is a time capsule of period design and artistic inspiration. Featured are several MCM pieces dating from the earliest history of the house, including a classic teak sideboard and hutch, an iconic 1960s Lawson-style sofa and a great period bedroom set. An unusual pecan-shell coffee table. A vintage dental cabinet. A large architectural x-base dining table and a set of six oak barrel-form dining chairs.
Great artwork throughout, including fine watercolors by the owner, several Western scenes by Montana artist David Ewart (deaccessioned from a local bank’s collection), an intriguing but unsigned large abstract oil, and beautiful Japanese prints including examples by the legendary Hiroshi Yoshida, to name just a few. A unique large found-object wood sculpture. A fantastic large live-edge table/bar. An impressive 12’ long hand carved Japanese transom panel or ranma with scenic carving, said to be one of only two in existence.
Several fine vintage Japanese tansus and cabinets, featuring an impressive stairstep example plus folk accents. Handthrown Japanese stoneware pottery collected in the 1960s and 1970s, plus other Asian ceramics. Small decor of varied styles and materials.
Carpets including handwoven Orientals. A fine collection of Japanese silk kimonos.
Great lighting spanning the 20th century from a classic vintage slag glass tulip shade table lamp to an iconic MCM teak floor lamp with linen shade, plus many others in between. A brass ship’s clock and barometer.
And to add additional interest: a whole Dressing Room of vintage clothing, and a whole Toy Room of vintage playthings. Jewelry. A diverse library on art, architecture and other intriguing topics.
A Well-Dressed yard with appealing accent pieces. Tools, primitives and the always-interesting basement and workshop finds.
