Meet Lela aka: TrashFindRedesigned

Hello, my name is Lela and I'm from eastern Pennsylvania. I have 1 husband, 3 kids, 1 almost daughter-in-law, and a part-time adorable dog. The icing on the cake is: I am an estate-saler! Yep, that's my un-official title! I have a YouTube channel, a Facebook page, and a Pinterest page called TrashFindRedesigned. I really love finding items with potential and creating something special with them. I don't do this for profit; I really do it in hopes that my family, friends, and others will enjoy!

Lela Strysky on Good Afternoon America

This past summer, two of my bigger finds were featured on ABC’s Good Afternoon America! How exciting was that? Lara Spencer transformed my vanity into a treasure along with a vintage bench that I also found. That's me on the bench chillin' with Josh and Lara. Yep, I got my 2 minutes of fame. Does this mean I have 13 minutes remaining? By the way, I hear Lara uses the EstateSales.NET site. Do you think this was her way of bringing us together with this blog?

Anyway, it certainly was a busy summer around here. My husband and I hosted an outdoor engagement party for my son and his fiancé. I knew I adored my future daughter-in-law when she said she liked the whole rustic/vintage/old/chippie paint thing! Yay! Most items I used were bought at estate sales and transformed into something special for the party.

The party was a HUGE hit. Soooo many people asked where I got all of the vintage pieces. When I told them estate sales, many of them said they always wanted to go to one but that they had no idea how to do that. This made me want to find a way to show folks out there just how easy and fun this is!

With EstateSales.NET, I can click on their main map for any state in the US, I often choose New Jersey, which then takes me into several choices to narrow my search. Like many other estate-salers, I plan out my days in advance. Most sales are posted way in advance, sometimes months. The posts usually include a description of the sale along with pictures, times, the address, etc. I use EstateSales.NET whenever I visit my Connecticut hometown and also when I travel to other parts of the country.

Over the next few months I will show you how just how easy it is to have a weekend filled with fun and hopefully great finds. I'm still searching for that million dollar painting tucked away in an attic at one of the sales! You never know what you might find!

Come visit me here next week and we'll start preparing for our first estate sale! I can't wait - this will be a lot of fun!! Have a wonderful week, everyone.

Love your "Trash Find Redesign".. putting most of them in Project folder. I go to as many Estate sales as I can and I also go to auctions. Spouse says can't go anymore until I get rid of some stuff... O- that will never work.. nervous breakdown. HaHa Thanks for sharing, love your site. I watch all Lara Spencer's shows I can find where she makes treasures from trash or helps others. Keep it coming.

I love estate sales and am a sales junkie. I started a little business in estate sale tours. It's a great way to see the country and often the inside of beautiful homes. I've got so many ideas of what to do for remodeling my own home from these sales. Needless to say I also found some fantastic bargains on things I could never imagine owning before too! I love it when I see blogs and sites like this and I share them with all my customers.

I learned a long time ago that you have to pay for the good stuff. Do you sometimes get a great buy? YES....but don't expect a Picasso for pennies.

I love estate sales. Only problem I find is that pricing is usually way overpriced. Trying to find a bargain is difficult because they price it off of the web..... Still love to go though and try to find something.

You looked right at home up there with Lara and Josh in that video! I love repurposed vintage things. Funny how, as the years pass, the word "Vintage" applies to more and more. We'll never run out of vintage things!

I would love to follow you I love doing stuff like this. In fact my husband and I just did a project this weekend. We took an old door with a window in it and put a picture in it cut it off and it look's like your looking through a window. Love it. Thank's for sharing your idea's.

This is what I do also. It is so much fun and the people I meet are wonderful. The thrill is in the hunt for the bargain--something I can repurpose into something I love.

Lela, you and I must be "kin" in some way!! Estate sales are my joy also! I conduct estste sales and also shop them. My favorite hobby is finding something that I know a friend or relative will like, buying it, redoing it, and giving it to them. I also buy things and donate them to the local animal shelter for their yearly yard sale fund raiser (another one of my passions....animals.) I look forward to seeing what all you are doing at these sales!!
