New Look for EstateSales.NET

We here at EstateSales.NET are happy to announce a new look and feel to our site (coming early October). We think everyone will truly love it! Our last change of this degree, was way back in February of 2008, which was primarily done to help make our site easier to use.

The need for improvement has come again! Nowadays people are using their phones and tablets for everything and our site is no different. In the last two years, mobile device page views have increased from 11% to 35%. That's a lot of views! Needless to say, the people have spoken and we have developed a responsive site that will work on the vast majority of devices.

Don't worry, we still have the same great site you know and love, we just made it better! I hope you enjoy the video and stay tuned to the blog and our social media pages for more sneak peeks in the coming days.

We recognize that there are many, many users that come to our site using smart phones and tablets, and we want the site to be easy to use for them. Rather than making several different apps for iOS, Android, etc., we instead chose to recode our site to make it work with any size screen and any operating system.

Having one site that works for everything will allow us to keep a single user experience. So if you access the site from your iPhone and then from your Kindle Fire, you will have the same experience. In most cases, our site will automatically support any new device that comes out no matter what operating system or how big or small the screen is. Lastly, focusing on a single responsive website will allow us to implement new features faster because we won’t have to update several different code bases.

We have implemented a lot of new features based on your feedback. Please continue to let us know what you like about the site (and what you don't like, too). You can give us feedback here, on Facebook, Twitter, email or feel free to call and chat.

Hi my name is Teresa and I just wanted to drop you a quick message here instead of calling you. I discovered your New Look for EstateSales.NET page and noticed you could have a lot more traffic. I have found that the key to running a popular website is making sure the visitors you are getting are interested in your subject matter. There is a company that you can get keyword targeted visitors from and they let you try the service for free for 7 days. I managed to get over 300 targeted visitors to day to my website. http://hothor.se/1gj55

We've updated the EstateSales.NET site with several improvements over last week. Here is what we've added: 1. Filtering on the city page now works again. You can do zip code searches. You can filter on the sale types you want. You can do a distance search for sales happening in the next three days if you want. You can get as specific as you want. It'll even remember your settings for when you come back to the site next. 2. We had added the ability to click anywhere in the row to view the sale details on the city page. It actually turned out to be pretty annoying. We've turned it off for everyone except mobile. That's how it was supposed to be anyway. 3. Lots of little improvements here and there. 4. And last, but certainly not least, we made performance improvements. This should help the site perform better when all you folks start hammering the site. Did you know there are over 1.3 million visitors to our site each month? Yep. We've tripled our server capacity over the last week. If there are problems with performance again this week, we have contingency plans in place. Thanks for hanging in there with us! We will probably have updates to the site every day this week. If you see something you don't like or think could be better, please let us know.

I am a Sr. Cit. and have a land line and no connection to Facebook, etc. I love to look and occasionally go to estate sales. I do have a computer but just do not want any more e-mails (ads) . Would it be too costly to keep old format and those with i-phones can use your "new" format. I would like to add that sometimes those distant auctions may have something that I like and I have contacted them in the past to see if arrangements could be made re bid/mail. Thank you

Hi Kim: When you visit the homepage of EstateSales.NET, you will see the area where you can sign up to receive notifications. If you have any trouble, just let us know! Hi Jerry: Yes, we've been thinking about a rating system - just taking the time to make sure it's "right" and not something easily abused. Hi Tom: With the new responsive design, you will be able to do everything from your mobile device, including uploading multiple pictures! Hi Yvonne: That's great to hear! Hi Linda: If you enter in your zip code, you're going to get only those sales closest to you (there will also be a mileage indicator).

I will get used to the new format - however, when I click on sales in Montgomery, I would like to see ONLY sales in Montgomery - there are too many sales to go through in order to find just sales in our immediate area.

I have enjoyed your site. It has drove so many people to our sales. We are frog pond downsizing in Waynesville, NC. Thank you keep up the good work.

I am hoping there will be an upgrade that will allow posting multiple pictures (not just 1 or 3) at a time from my iPhone.

I have always been very happy with the website and the work you all do to help make all us successful. I do have a few comments that may already be addressed in the upcoming changes, but I wanted to suggest a few things. I would be willing to pay extra for a customized email subscription regulars who only want to see my sales and not the rest of Memphis; is this do-a-ble? Also, have you ever considered allowing customers of estate sales to rate, grade or compliment our companies with some kind of small icon link on your website. i.e. a customer satisfaction ranking that is public; not compared to my being ranked among my peers, but to my company only. 2. providing a recommendation or comment section on Copeland Estate Sales for clients who have hired me...making this public. I would see the need for this to be controlled by company owners with each of submitting names of our clients (which would be private to the public), so that I could instruct them to go to estatesales.net and to type in a recommendation....I know this is very advanced, but it might be an uptick in my monthly rate to have this availability. sorry so long. thanks so much. jerry copeland

Hi Micky: Don't know when I first subscribed to your site, but I seem to think it was early in the game. I've been doing estate sales since 1996-97. I've watched you guys improve the site to make it better and easier for people like me to post our ads. So am excited to see the new "look". P.S. Now I know what you look like!!! Cheers! Barbara

Hi Bruce: We know you all do and that's what keeps us going! Hi Janet: Make sure to check out our other sneak peeks for other changes that might help with the ease of use. Hi Anastcia: Not sure we'll venture into the realm of TV, but you never know! Hi Jane: Make sure to check out our site. If you click on Florida and then your metro area, you'll be provided the sales in your area. If you need any help at all, please don't hesitate to contact support (888-653-8468). Hi Paul: We're going to make a change to the way people search for sales. You will now be able to search for sales by zip code and distance preference, narrowing in on only those sales you wish to see. Make sure to check out our future blog posts for the details about this! Hi Judy: Ha! I sometimes feel that way, too. :)

Love the site and the job that you are doing. One thing I would like to see changed: There are too many out-of-local-area estate ads, which dilute the impact of local ads for local people. So when I look at local San Diego ads, I have to sift through dozens of below average out -of-area ads which I would never drive a 100 miles to attend. The cure would be to raise the fee for out of area ads.

Thank you all for so much wonderful feedback! Hi James: Keep checking back to our blog for the sneak peeks...I think that's something we'll be talking about. :) Hi Susan: I'll pass along that feedback! Hi Ben: No word about that, but you can always send an email to support and we can get it forwarded to Micky. Hi Stephanie: Not sure who you are referring to when you said Dennis? The sneak peek is above (two photos - if you click on them, they enlarge). We can't give away too much too soon!

I like the look of it, however it needs to sort by area (ergo zip code or phone area code) to work best for Sale Customers. My 2 cents.

Mickey - this looks great - thanks! Would like to add my vote to request a possible listing of more than four days for a sale. We sometimes run a split week such as Wednesday, Fri, Sat, and Sun - makes it very confusing for our customers to have to add that last day as another sale. Thanks!

Your website is wonderful. Glad to see more attention is being given to mobile traffic. I have had difficulties making changes with the text in the description box because it will not scroll up and down and the ability to save. I have an iPhone 5. I sometimes need to add or delete info at the last minute and the iPhone is always with me. Your site makes me very successful. Thank you. Zoe

FYI...at my last sale, on the first day, the first pair of buyers were using their smart phone and tablet to look at estatesales.net...probably mapping out their day after visiting my sale...Currently have a dumb phone too, but as tech and apps become faster & friendlier etc can see myself having one a smart phone in one hand and a tablet nearby...Anyway, looks like ya'll are leading the way! Thanks!

Great tool for my business! Only comment is the "private sale" people are not handling their sales professionally. No signs, high prices, confusing advertising. I am not sure why they can advertise if they are not a company. Just a comment. Thanks, Diane

please allow more than 4 days for a sale. We do night sales on Tues and then try to post the rest of the sale on Friday and it wont let us. Its very confusing to people to add the same sale in again. Even if its the same pics they get confused..

Lela - Thank you so much for the kind words! Gail - You can't see the full site change yet, but viewing our sneak peeks will give you some idea. :) Mindy - Yes, the site will always work for your desktop. We just wanted to improve upon those features that needed help for smart phone/tablet users. Hi Sisters Antiques - We're so happy to have you! Hope you enjoy the upcoming changes! Hi Cindi - Ha! I'd take that offer up, too! David - We won't be having an app, just made the site responsive so that it works on any device. Hi Tonya - For Gold members, we now offer unlimited pictures! Make sure to call us to get it set up (888-653-8468). Amanda & Jason - Search results are going to be geared more towards exact location based on zip code, so the chances of your sale being seen all depends on someone's search area, as well as when your sale starts and at what time it starts (which is how we have it now). If you'd like more details, please don't hesitate to call in to customer support. Whew! A lot of great feedback - keep it coming!

Hoping there has been a change in the way featured slots appear. Love your site but when I pay extra for a featured slot I expect to be at the top of the sales list and emails of sales....instead of being near the bottom and not noticed in the long email list.
