A Better Way to View Sales

In the process of updating the site with a responsive design, the ability to polish needed features became available to us. Based on the feedback we have received, we think we have come up with a great new way of viewing upcoming sales on our site. The new change will provide the user filtering options that allow more accurate results.

Take Chicago for instance, there are hundreds of sales in this particular metro area at any given time. To the left, you can see what your results would be when you are not using the filtering option.

We believe this update will make navigation much easier on our site. Before, when you entered a postal code, you were provided the closest metro area that we had in our system. With this new update, you will have the ability to customize the results that you receive. To accomplish this, you can use the Filtering Options button to select what type of sales you want to view, the distance you're willing to travel, etc.

You can still search by specific metro areas, but for those of you who live in a smaller area and only search by postal code, this helps you get right to what you’re looking for without as many steps as before.

You can see in this screenshot we used the Filtering Options button to narrow our search to local sales within five miles of 60559.  Our new design will now provide the user pinpointed results with far better accuracy than before.  Now you can focus on sales that are important to you.  We wanted to make the experience tailored for our users and we hope that we've accomplished that.

Please continue to let us know what you like about the site (and don't like, too).  You can give us feedback here, on Facebook, Twitter, email, or feel free to call and chat.

Hi Diane: Our site has always been for estate liquidations, which does include both. In order to solve the issue of users not wanting to see certain types of sales, we have provided a filter option to both the city page, as well as within a subscriber account (for notifications). We may update this in the future, but we feel that this is a good solution at the moment. Thanks! - Katie

I would rather have Auctions separate from Estate Sales My customers were more interested in Estate Sales not Auctions. When I signed up I understood this to be an Estate Sale site. Maybe there should be more of a distinction between the 2. Just something to think about. How do you feel about this?

We've updated the EstateSales.NET site with several improvements over last week. Here is what we've added: 1. Filtering on the city page now works again. You can do zip code searches. You can filter on the sale types you want. You can do a distance search for sales happening in the next three days if you want. You can get as specific as you want. It'll even remember your settings for when you come back to the site next. 2. We had added the ability to click anywhere in the row to view the sale details on the city page. It actually turned out to be pretty annoying. We've turned it off for everyone except mobile. That's how it was supposed to be anyway. 3. Lots of little improvements here and there. 4. And last, but certainly not least, we made performance improvements. This should help the site perform better when all you folks start hammering the site. Did you know there are over 1.3 million visitors to our site each month? Yep. We've tripled our server capacity over the last week. If there are problems with performance again this week, we have contingency plans in place. Thanks for hanging in there with us! We will probably have updates to the site every day this week. If you see something you don't like or think could be better, please let us know.

The balloons don't pop up when I select a sale icon on the map. I tried 3 idff browsers. all new - IE FF, Chrome. Before your changes, I had no problem. No changes on my different computers.

The filtering does not seem to be working. I set the filter to sales within 20 miles sorted by distance, unclicking auctions and online sales. The first two listing are auctions, one of which is online and the entrees after that are not sorted by distance.

Hi Marianne: No app, but we made the site responsive, so that you can use it on practically any device. Hi David: Happy to hear that! Hi Carol: We do hope you give it some more time. We hope that the overall experience is much easier to use than before. However, if there is anything that you don't like, please let us know.

Will you have an iPhone app after you make the changes? That would be great, one touch shopping!

Hi Linda: We think it will be must more user friendly, not only for users who receive the email notifications, but companies as well. Hi Sue: Yes, it will definitely be easier for those that are out and about, looking for that next great sale! Hi Mary: Pictures are one of the biggest assets to a company's listing! It's definitely a great way to get those customers interested! Hi Carol: With this new change, we think the option to view sales by zip and distance preference are going to fix a lot of that. Hi Deena: Most of the time, the photos are going to be a good size. However, it's always best if the company who uploads the pictures, makes sure that they are uploading a picture of the right size.

the most important thing to me is to be able to open the photos and see them at a decent size

Filtering sounds great. I live in new haven and when I search for distance from my zip i get a ton of sales in long island... as the crow flies it is with in the distance i have set but you can't get there from here (with out driving into nyc and then back out long island (about 100 miles one way). Would be great to filter out certain zips thanks carol

That looks like it would be a great help to many! Personally, I look at the pictures of every sale listed; I never know when I might find something that I've just got to have. I like pictures of the smalls too! I enlarge them to find treasures!

I like this feature. It should be much easier for shoppers in my area to find my sales. Nice job!
