★ We are licensed and bonded. Many companies listed on sites are not licensed. It's important to check with the Cities or Counties they are from to make sure they are legal. An unlicensed company may cause suit.
★ We were the first estate sale company to have a 1/2 price Sunday back in the 1980s as a way to liquidate merchandise and boost sales.
★ We invented the 75% off 2 hour day after the end of the estate sale as a way to pull out extra revenue for our clients.
★ Although Odekirk's wasn't the first estate sale company to hold evening sales in Southern California we were the only company to continue the act through the 1970s and 1980s and we keep the tradition alive.
★ Odekirk's is the only estate sale company to continue to offer top quality customer service by offering to help our customers with wrapping, bagging, moving furniture, and loading their merchandise while other companies ask customers to bring their own bags, wrapping paper, remove large furniture from the home and to load their own items.
★ We are one of the few estate sale companies that have always rejected limiting the amount of people access to a sale at any given time. This simply limits the amount of sales and reduces customer loyalty.
★ Throughout our history we have always been licensed, bonded, and court accredited and have worked with and been referred by universities, attorneys, banks, state agencies, corporations, and small businesses, but mostly with private individuals.
★ Odekirk's has always cared about our community. Being a family who has been in this area for 3 and 4 generations, we care about the people of our area of Southern California and strive to make this place the top we can. The best way we can help our community through our business is to offer the precise balance so we can get our clients the most while giving our customers the best deals. We've proven to have done the best job for over 50 years.
★ As of October 1st 2014 Odekirk's has become Accredited in the International Court of Justice within the United Nations.
Odekirk's Estate Sales was founded by E. Barton and Joan Odekirk in 1960. Bart & Joan were helped to get their foothold by Gladys Smith, the top personal property appraiser and liquidator in the Inland Empire throughout the 1950s. After Gladys Smith retired, Bart and Joan built up their business and soon became the top estate sale people in the Inland Empire. Joan passed away in 1982 and Bart continued the business until his death in 1991. The business was then guided by their daughter Janet Odekirk Foster. Soon, Bart and Joan's son Paul took the helm. The Odekirk family continues to keep the tradition of the business their parents founded alive and well in Southern California.
Bart Odekirk served on the Board of Directors of the Riverside City Museum, started the Riverside Antiques Guild, and was listed in Who's Who of California and Who's Who of the United States. Joan Odekirk was a member of Zonta and helped organize their annual thrift sale. Bart appraised the world famous Native American Basket Collection for the Mission Inn and donated many Native American artifacts to the Sherman Indian Institute Museum in the name of Joan Odekirk. Bart and Joan and their son, Paul donated many photos to the California Museum of Photography and many items to the Edward-Dean Museum in Cherry Valley. The Odekirk's home is listed in Esther Klotz' famous book: "Adobes, Bungalows, and Mansions of Riverside, California". Bart and Joan's son, Paul has made many donations to the Friends of the Mission Inn, The Museum of Tolerance, the Child Abuse Prevention Center, as well as many other community organizations. With the help of our customers and clients, Odekirk's was able to raise a substantial donation to Doctors Without Borders for the Haitian Earthquake Relief Fund. In November 2011 Paul Odekirk held a sale and raised substantial funds for Riverside's Save Our Chinatown organization in an effort to save and preserve Riverside's Chinatown archeological land.
Bart and Joan conducted estate sales for Hopalong Cassidy, the sister of Grant Woods (the model for the painting, American Gothic), Mae West, silent film star Queen Boardman, the Pinkerton Family (from the Pinkerton Detective Agency), Betty May Furman, a member of the Aero Policewomen's Association - her name was listed on the plaque on the Flyer's Wall in the Mission Inn in 1938, Artist John DeWilde, Edgar Payne, and many more famous people. Paul conducted sales for Maxine Frost, the longest serving member of the Riverside Unified School Board, Paul Roy Desjardins, 40 year professor of Plant Pathology at UCR and founder of the Newman Club, Renata J. Rafferty, one of the most engaging and sought-after consultants and speakers in the nation, Marilynn Carlson Webber, author of "How to Become a Sweet Old Lady instead of a Grumpy Old Grouch", Famous Riverside historian and author, Tom Patterson, Architect G. Stanley Wilson, famous Riverside activist Yolanda Garland, old Riversider "Coach" Sandoval, historic Southern California Takeda Family, World Renown Opera Soprano Elizabeth Blancke-Biggs, Famous Artist Mabel Hutchinson, as well as many other well known people.
Paul Odekirk is licensed and has over three decades experience in the estate sale business. Starting as a very young apprentice with his parents at the age of 14, Paul learned the trade from the inside out. Learning cash handling, accounting, pricing and customer support. He worked everything from estate sales to working in the family's many antique stores learning first hand knowledge of antique and art appraising. Odekirk's Estate Sale's is proud to announce 2010 was our Golden Anniversary!
