ASSISTANCE LEAGUE® OF ATLANTA
MISSION Assistance League of Atlanta is an all-volunteer, nonprofit organization committed to serving children and adults in need in our communities through philanthropic programs.
OVERVIEW In the fiscal year ending May 31, 2018, Assistance League of Atlanta had over 270 member volunteers who recorded more than 58,500 volunteer hours valued at over $1.5 million. The organization owns a 13,000 square-foot facility, where the thrift shop is located. In December 2016, the chapter purchased a second building, a 16,000 square-foot facility, which houses its philanthropic programs and administrative offices. Assistance League of Atlanta is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that consistently returns over 78 percent of its income to the local community.
FOUNDED Assistance League of Atlanta is one of 120 chapters of National Assistance League, which was established in Los Angeles in the early 1900s to serve those less fortunate. In 1982 a group of 34 women founded the Atlanta chapter in Chamblee, Georgia.

KEY SERVICES Through philanthropic programs and a network of more than 250 community partners, Assistance League of Atlanta provides new clothing, household goods, hygiene kits, comfort items and educational aid to those affected by homelessness, abuse, and poverty. The programs are run by 100 percent volunteer efforts and enable us to:
· Comfort traumatized children (Bears for Children)
· Fund college scholarships (Links to Education)
· Aid the homeless and abused (New Beginnings)
· Clothe students in need (Operation School Bell®)
· Support patient rehabilitation (Shepherd Center Patient Support)
· Share excess goods with other charities (Waste Not)

FUNDING: The organization owns and operates its Assistance League Thrift Shop in Chamblee, Georgia, which serves the community by offering good quality, gently-used clothing for the whole family, as well as household items, books, jewelry, collectibles, and furniture items at affordable prices. Proceeds provide the primary source of funding for the organization’s community service programs. Other sources of funding include donations, grants, and fundraising events.
EXPERTISE: Assistance League of Atlanta has a diverse set of member volunteers with experience in many industries, namely education, healthcare, finance, retail, law, human resources, real estate, marketing and customer services. Our expertise covers topics such as the impact of poverty levels in Atlanta on children’s education, the trends and economic issues around thrift shopping, and rising financial demands for philanthropic support.
PARTNERS: Assistance League of Atlanta collaborates with a network of more than 250 community partners including three public school systems and seven colleges/universities in the metropolitan Atlanta area as well as numerous hospitals, social agencies, and emergency services to enhance the lives of families, children, and adults in need.
