This handmolded and handpainted ceramic piece dates from Occupied Japan. It measures 7"h x 6-1/2"w x 6"d and depicts a seated geisha with adornments in her hair, her intentionally bashful face tilted slightly and eyes looking down, wearing multicolored kimono, white toed socks, on a quasi-rectangular base. The hole in each of the four corners of the base suggest that it was intended to be secured to something larger. There is deterioration of paint, characteristic of age, notably in the adornments in her hair. Her head has been reattached.
