This is an 1830s American mantle clock showing off its stenciled pediment and demipilasters, which have been very well preserved when the clock case and works were restored. The round white clock face has black Roman numerals. Hands are period but may be replacements. The cords supporting the original weights have been replaced with sturdy gut. Note the wood wheels showing through the top of the case. The clock face and case have been carefully restored, including reattaching some pieces. What was probably a reverse-painted scene in the lower section of the door has been replaced with a mirror. The original back paper is intact, identifying Lawyer Byington (1779-1856) of Newark Valley, New Jersey as the clock maker, as well as the printer being Elihn Geer of Hartford, Connecticut, citing himself as "Job and Card Printer". You can find more biodata on Byington on-line. Clock movement has been cleaned and repaired, is now is fine working condition.
