early 19th century female portrait
Sold by Items of Value, Inc
There is a lot to appreciate in this oil portrait in the apparel, jewelry, and book that enhance the young female face with elaborate period hairdo of dangling curls, 30"h x 26"w, in a 20th century goldtone frame, 40-3/4"h x 34-1/2"w. There are many pieces of jewelry to study, also the wide white shawl and the book titled "Watt's Hymns" that she is holding. She is a beauty portrayed to be a humble person by the book she is holding but also or some wealth having sat for this portrait around 1830s-1840s, probably American. The painting has been professionally relined with fiberglass, restitched, cleaned, and mounted in a more modern frame.
