English Sheffield antique dessert set in box
Sold by Items of Value, Inc
This is a set of 12 forks and 12 knives, all having ivory-color celluloid handles simulating ivory, repousse silverplate collars featuring anthemions within arches, silverplate tines or blade. Each fork is 7" long and features a brightcut design at the end of the four tines of dot within circle plus semicircles ending in flower heads. Of the 12 forks, only two handles do NOT have a crack. The knives are 8-1/2"l, nearly all the blades stamped "TT&Co" plus "ENCORE", indicating that the set was known as the "Encore" pattern, made 1865-1885 by Thomas Turner of Sheffield. Of the 12 knives, only two handles do NOT have a crack. The wood box with hinged lid is in very good condition, with keyhole and lock but missing a working key, the interior lined in blue fabric in very good condition. The metal portion of the forks and knives still fit tightly into the handles, so they are serviceable even though most of the handles having a linear crack in them. The silverplating on them is in good condition.
