We are prepared to help you with every situation no matter how big or small our staff has seen it all from hoarding to homes that have been locked up for years.
Each member of our staff has many years of experience working in antique shops and brings their own expertise to the sale. Our staff has expert knowledge with vintage jewelry, depression glass, high end furniture, and military items. You can rest assured our staff will work hard to help ensure a lucrative and professional sale. We also work closely with the most respected experts in the business. Anything we are not 100 percent familiar with our experts are ready to help us price including: stamps, coins, sports memorabilia, gold/silver jewelry and mid-century modern furniture.
Proper advertising is essential to the success of your sale. Attic to the Basement Estate Sales has one of the largest marketing networks to ensure we reach perspective customers all over the tri state area. Depending upon the size of your sale and its collectible contents we can also provide advertising throughout the United States. (Note: not all sales will be advertised outside the tri state area.)
To get started we ask that you do not throw anything away including all clothing. You will be amazed at what sells at an estate sale. Please go through belongings and make a "keep" and "sell" list. Family members who want items should take them away as soon as possible. All furnishings and larger items to be kept will be marked prominently as "NFS" or "not for sale." Smaller items should be kept in a safe room that will be securely closed to the public.
During the in person consult we will discuss your needs, time frame, and tour the home or estate. We will take photographs to help with advertising. We also discuss pricing and how we will make this a very positive experience for you. (Note: each sale is different and for this reason we do not quote a percentage over the phone without seeing the home first.) Once the contract is signed and a date is chosen we will prepare to stage the sale. Please keep in mind all sales and set ups are different and most set ups take 1-3 days. We are happy to help unpack items that have been tucked away for many years including attics and basements. Once staging is complete we will begin pricing items for sale. (Please rest assure that anything large in value will be discussed with the owner.) The sale itself usually runs 2-3 days on the weekends.
Can't wait to see you at our sale. Setup was 3214.
Please feel free to call us at 732-778-7674 or email us at estatesales@attictothebasement.com to schedule an in person consult. We will follow up within 24 hours and we look forward to working with you
My story begins when my grandmother took me to my first flea market when I was six years old. I remember thinking, “this is not where I want to be”, but she gave me a dollar to shop, told me to stay close, and off we went. At that age I was only interested in toys, but what toy on earth was I going to buy with only one dollar? The answer was a few small toys and a pretzel, WOW - I was hooked! From then on my grandmother and I spent most of our Saturdays together at the Englishtown Flea Market.
Years later my weekends still consist of flea markets and garage sales. The thrill of the hunt - searching for that perfect figurine, adding to my many collections. Tea cups, toys, vintage Christmas and Halloween decorations, Hummels, cookie jars, brooches - everything and anything. These are the things that bring me back to my favorite Aunt’s house that was filled with all the things we remember from our childhood.
After I was married and had my daughter I worked full time, but had to stop due to an injury. Searching for a way to make extra money, I began selling at the flea market and on EBay. Instead of buying I was now selling all the collectibles it took years to find. Strangely I found myself loving what I was doing, I was making money and I was happy. Not many of us can say that! Meeting so many new people and listening to stories of how they started their own collections motivated me and I began searching for them. Now, I wasn't shopping for myself but the thrill of the hunt was back! And the smile on other people’s faces was all I needed to know this is where I belonged. So, I rented a small booth in an antique shop and started filling it with all the things I knew customers would love.
Then in 2012, Hurricane Sandy flooded our neighborhood and I lost my home and most of its contents. The little money I received from insurance didn't cover everything I lost and that is when I discovered estate sales. I filled my home with furniture, electronics, decorations and clothing all from these amazing sales. Soon after, I began a part time job helping various Estate Sale companies’ stage homes before the sales. That is how I met my mentor who quickly realized this was not only a job for me, but a way of life. Over the next year she taught me all the secrets to a good sale - how to keep the customers as well as the clients happy. She gave me the opportunity to become her partner; and then sadly two months later my mentor passed away. I was lost without my partner, but she had given me the confidence and know how to succeed and not long after her passing I decided to honor her legacy.
This brings me to where I am today, full circle from that first flea market with my grandmother. I started my own company, Attic to the Basement Estate Sales. I am doing what I love and my customers can confidently put their worries into my hands, and most important their memories, as they deal with some of life’s most stressful times - loss, divorce, the stress of moving, etc. Attic to the Basement Is a dream come true for me and one that I intend to finish to the end. I would be honored to bring my passion, know how, and hard work to make your estate sale successful.
Sincerely,
Tara Marie
