Sale Description:
Hughes Estate Sales is proud to announce a sale of estate property of Dr. & Mrs. Albert R. and Marka O.Hibbs on March 19th-20th at the Hibbs’ 1909 Craftsman mansion in Pasadena.

Dr. Albert “the voice of JPL” Hibbs began his career as a physicist in1950 and later helped build the Explorer I, United States’ first Earth orbiter. Hibbs wrote more than 70 scientific and technical papers and textbooks including Quantum Mechanics and Path Integrals, which he co-authored with his friend Richard P. Feynman, the Nobel physicist.

Marka Oliver Hibbs was a fine artist, who studied printmaking under Shiro Ikegawa and devoted two decades of her life as librarian for Flintridge Preparatory School in La Canada Flintridge. Mrs. Hibbs was known to host lavish and wild parties which included a salon of scientific bigwigs and art-world eccentrics such as Carl Sagan, Jirayr Zorthian, and Timothy Leary. She was a supporter of the arts and her home housed their collection of paintings, prints, and sculpture by numerous local artists as well as several incredible kinetic sculptures designed and constructed by Dr. Hibbs himself.
