A Pair of Austrian/German Biedermeier Satinwood, Satin Birch and Ebony Console Tables - c1830

like new condition, both

The radially veneered semi-circular tops are strung with ebony and crossbanded, above flush friezes. The friezes are applied with ebonized foliate sprays on three U-shaped swan-necked supports with similar applied ebony designs, centered on urn finials over out-splayed feet.

c.1810, German or Austrian.

Although there was a preference for light-colored timbers with this style, it is unusual to see satinwood used. There is a slight influence of French Charles X marquetry designs of the 1830's with the contrasting ebony floral decoration.

An extremely beautiful and extremely rare pair of consoles - in like new condition. Pieces like this, especially in pairs, are rarely available and even more rarely for sale.
