Beginning this Thursday, May 12th we will be liquidating the longtime La Cañada Home of the Winkley family. This interesting estate contains a fun mix of Mid-Century Furniture, Entertaining Crystal and China, Sterling, Costume and Fine Jewelry, Tons of Paper and Photographs, and a host of household item! This is the estate of Gloria and her husband Dr John Winkley who met shortly after WWII, fell in love, and spent their honeymoon traveling cross country to their new home in California!

Gloria was the talented pretty All-American Girl who after high school beelined for NYC to study at the Theatre School of Dramatic Arts and after graduating joined the Toledo Light Opera Company and then moved on to Broadway performing in "The Red Mill" and "Where's Charley?" with Ray Bolger. One day her mother called and asked her to go on a blind date with the son of one of her bridge club friends who had recently ended his stint with the Army and was driving his family nuts as he was like a "caged lion" at home with nothing to occupy his time. Gloria agreed to go out, and after returning from her date she told her mom the guy was nice but just not her type....shortly thereafter, she was engaged to the young doctor and decided that the stage life was suddenly not so important. The young Doctor has served as the Flight Surgeon for the 118th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron of the Flying Tigers and after the war had been recruited by Kaiser Hospital in Los Angeles. With his experience and talent - Dr. Winkley quickly rose to the position of Chief of Surgery - a position he maintained for decades! Settled in Los Angeles, the young couple established their home and became the proud parents of two daughters. The couple was always active within the community and the world. The Doctor often traveled around the world sharing his surgical knowledge and expertise accompanied by Gloria and the kids and stateside Gloria spent time working as a writer and photographer with the Glendale News Press. Gloria also volunteered with the Descanso Gardens Guild and both were active with the La Cañada Tournament of Roses Association. After 49 years of marriage...Gloria lost John...This motivated her to keep active with her community work and she soon earned the nickname "the Energizer Bunny" for her busy social schedule which would continue through her golden years.

On behalf of Gloria and John's daughters - you are invited to the family home in the hills of La Cañada to find a treasure among the many items this dynamic couple assembled over the years!
