Remember When Antiques And Estate Sales, LLC
Description & Details
The Remember When Antiques and Estate Sales, LLC team proudly presents one of the largest single owner collections of original paintings from Antonia Mastrocristino Sirena to ever be offered for sale at one time!
Sirena was born in White Plains, NY on January 13th, 1929 and shortly after, her father died the same year. In 1931, Sirena's mother moved herself and her 8 children to their homeland of Italy. There, World War II and starvation killed all of her children except Sirena who was later rescued from a burning train car by an opera singer. It was then that Sirena's vocal range was discovered. Sirena would eventually train to sing in the grand opera and perform all around the world. After a near fatal illness, Sirena retired from singing and became a self taught painter over the next 5 years. While she never received any formal art training, she is credited as the creator of marbleized paintings. Her first gallery show was in 1965 and even Picasso once said "They should be shown throughout the world".
Sirena's work has been featured at the Museum of Modern Art in Rome, Museum Castello Sforzesco in Milan, the Museum of Rome Campidoglio, and the Vatican Museum. Movie director Federico Fellini, Pablo Picasso, Danny Thomas, Gina Lollobrigida, and Luciano Pavarotti were all fans of Sirena's art style. Throughout her career, Sirena earned over twenty awards some of which are viewed as Europe's most coveted in the art world. Sirena died in 2006 but her legacy lives on and now is your chance to bring her fabulous talents into your home.
