Manor, Texas, 1914), an architect who left his stamp on Austin and surrounding communities designing homes, corporate offices, hotels and motels, and restaurants from 1945 until his death in 1985. Both he and wife Joyce were life long members of the Optimist (and Opt-Mrs.) club and fixtures of early Austin civic life. Wilfred- who always went by the name “Gus” -received a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Texas in 1939. Joyce McIlroy Gustafson (1921 – 2018) was a graduate of The University of Texas and was featured as a girl of the month by Ranger Magazine. She later worked at UT for the School of Fine Arts Dean’s office and 17 years for the Austin Public Schools teaching business classes.
