This property was the location of the Victorian home of Dr. J.L. Burns (1851-1923) who helped establish St. Bernard's Hospital and was the first rice farmer in northeast Arkansas. After his death Mrs. Burns (1868-1958) managed their family and their home on this property. In the 1940s the family provided the land for the water tower, their home that faced Strawn was moved and they built this rock, ranch style home facing Main. Mrs. Burns, one of the founders of the prestigious Twentieth Century Club, Jonesboro's oldest women's literary club, wanted a living room large enough for all 26 members...
