Water Canals of Venice by Antonietta Brandeis

Original Oil by Clement Rollins Grant 63" x 41" Primarily known as a figure and landscape painter, Clement Rollins Grant was born in Freeport, Maine in 1848. At the age of eighteen, he traveled to Europe, spending time in Great Britain and France. Grant worked in Portland, Maine, before establishing a studio at 12 West Street in Boston by 1882. He was a member of the Boston Art Club, where his works were exhibited between 1877 and 1905. Thirty-six examples of his work were exhibited by Boston dealer Noyes & Blakeslee (exhibition dates unrecorded) and another twenty at the Boston gallery of J. Eastman Chase in 1884. Titles of the exhibited works indicate that the artist had spent time in Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Great Britain and France. By 1887, he had relocated to New York City, where he supported himself by producing reproductive etchings of well-known paintings. Original Oil Painting by William Silva "Washington Monument at Night" A landscape painter, William Silva was an important art world figure in Tennessee and also in California, where he moved in 1913 and for thirty-five years devoted himself to painting cypresses, eucalypti, dunes, and coasts. He was born in Savannah, Georgia, and studied at Chatham Academy and engineering at the University of Virginia. He inherited the family chinaware business, which he ran successfully for thirty years until he began painting at age 50. In 1887, he moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee, and there became known as "the finest artist at the turn of the century" (Gerdts Art Across America, V III). He painted in an impressionist style and did many panoramic views of Chattanooga as well as paintings of the pine forests near Savannah. Initially he pursued his chinaware business there, but in 1894, began to take art instruction. Encouraged by his wife, he retired from his business in 1907 and enrolled at the

"A Pensive Moment" Print signed By Eugene Von Blaas 1896

An Italian painter born to Austrian parents, Eugen von Blaas, also known as Eugen de Blaas, became a late 19th, early 20th century figure and genre painter in the style of Academic Classicism. He was most associated with Venetian subjects especially voluptuous female water carriers. Many of his scenes, painted either in oil or watercolor, suggest male and female flirtation between fisher folk as they go about their daily business. The artist often used his wife, Paola Prina, as a model. He was born in Albino, near Rome and moved to Venice as a young man with his family because his father, Karl von Blaas (1815-1894), a history and fresco painter, became Professor at the Art Academy. Eugene studied with his father but chose different subject matter. He also studied at the Academy in Venice and the Academy of Rome. Eugene von Blaas had extensive exposure to his work through exhibitions including the Esposizione Nationale exhibitions in Venice and the Jubilaums Austellungs in Vienna
