Antique Imperial Chinese Robes with Letter of Provenance: A set of antique Imperial Chinese robes. The blue silk tunic features a cloud embroidered motif, with a white appliqué border and collar having scenic fauna embroidery with black piping edge and mother of pearl shank buttons, and has a matching headpiece. The light blue pant article features an embroidered T-fret and auspicious symbol motif with contrast border at hem. The horse-hoof platform silk shoes are embellished with butterfly and floral embroidery. The pleated silk jacquard skirt has a decorative front panel with an embroidered country scene. These items were purchased from a descendant of Anson Burlingame, Ambassador to China during President Lincoln’s administration, in 1945 and stored in a cedar chest for 40 years. They have since been professionally restored and kept in a custom-made protective cabinet. Includes a framed letter of provenance written by Clive Burlingame’s wife.
