Circa 1890 - 1929 Yixing clay and pewter tea set Wen Hua Shun dragon motif with copper detail.
Interesting use of dragon figures including a head as a spout.
This is a full 4 piece tea set.

This has not been cleaned in order to preserve the patina for our buyers.
There are minor chips on the interior of one of the lids. These flaws are very common in this style and age of pottery, and is an element used to attribute the age.

Black Pottery was produced going back to 9th century and continues today.
This clay pottery and pewter tea service are bold in their motifs and in a condition that is appropriate for their age.
Purchased by our clients mother in at an asian art and antiques auction in England in 1953. The provenance provided at that time is that they were purchased by the previous owners in Wei Hei Wei city while the area was a British colony.
The markings on the pieces indicate they were produced in British Weihaiwei or Wei-hai-wei, on the northeastern coast of China, which was a leased territory of the United Kingdom from 1898 until 1930.
