Russell Jennings Spur Auger Bit Set

This is a vintage wooden box containing a set of four Russell Jennings Spur Auger Bits. The box is constructed of wood with brass hardware, including decorative clasps on the front and hinges on the lid. The interior of the box is fitted with wooden dividers to hold the auger bits securely. The lid features a yellowed label with black text detailing the product: "RUSSELL JENNINGS SPUR AUGER BITS", "WARRANTED CRUCIBLE STEEL", "THE RUSSELL, JENNINGS MFG. CO., CHESTER, CONN., U.S.A.", "Established 1855", and "ONE SET 32½ Quarters Fig. No. 100". The label also describes the bits as having "double thread joint" and being "unexcelled for accuracy". The auger bits themselves are made of steel and feature the characteristic spiral fluting and cutting spurs of spur auger bits, designed for drilling clean holes in wood. The set appears to be in used condition with some signs of wear and patina consistent with age and use.
