This Cedar Chest is a unique item due to its size and construction. Sizes like this were commonly used aboard sailing ships or steamships to safely care for personal possessions during long voyages.
It appears to be antique as indicated by the general construction, wood cuts, lock, and overall appearance. We leave the final decision to you.
It is from the home of former longtime antiques dealers who sold American and European treasures and imported containers full of antiques from Europe for a number of years. This chest may have come from Europe.
There is a piece of wood missing from one of the panels on top as shown in the photos.
The lid has modern metal supports added to some inside corners and joints for betters support and structural integrity,
and the straps holding the lid open have been replaced with modern materials.
The wood is sturdy, nicely cut, and has a lovely patina of age.
A treasure for your home or retail shop.
