historically important center for the
production of decorative rugs displaying a
wide repertoire of designs, based on a
tradition dating back to the 16th Century.

feature highly in their repertoire.
This rug is an example of a particular style
of pictorial rug specific to Tabriz. This rather
surreal mythical depiction is from a
significant group of modern Tabriz weavings
often referred to as 'fantasy' rugs where the
depictions are dream-like in appearance.
This example appears to show a fgure
which has been taken from or inspired by
The Ruba'iyat of the Persian astronomerpoet, Omar Kayyam, and presented in this
rather unique way. These rugs began to be
created around the last quarter of the 20th Century and are particularly popular in
Middle and Far Eastern markets.
