The reverse knotting detail indicates this to be of the origin as stated in the Guarantee Line, and supports the information as stated in the Guarantee line. From the early 1990's the Chinese hand made rug industry underwent a change in their approach to rug designs, focusing their attention on producing designs based on, or inspired by traditional Persian, Turkish and European rug patterns. This rug design, displaying an asymetric one way pattern with a tree ascending into an arch is a traditional muslim prayer rug composition. This format is often made for decorative furnishing purposes and not necessarily for functional use as a prayer rug, as the design became popular in western markets purely for decorative purposes. This Chinese silk rug appears to be based on a typical Persian rug design, and more particularly presenting a style of drawing and colour palette, closely related to prayer rugs originating from Qum, in central Persia.
