Reserve Not MetVintage Belmont Record Cemetery Casket Brass Cylinder Tube Dimensions: 6" x 1 1/4" Belmont Record warm brass covered copper core identification casket safe. These Vintage Brass Belmont Record Tubes were used to identify the person/body occupying a casket after burial. The Belmont Caskets were top of the line and were watertight (sealed) meaning that in the old days if a grave-site flooded the casket would literally float out of the ground and potentially float some distance away! There needed to be a method of identifying the occupant of the casket and where it came from - so included with the casket was this watertight, sealed tube containing the necessary info to return the casket to it's proper resting site. A death certificate could be enclosed as well as other pertinent information. The families also often left other notes about or 'to' their departed love ones. Prayers, Poems, Scriptures, etc. were often included in these tubes.
