Sy was a professor of Environmental Policy and Planning at UCD for over 35 years, and then a teacher of ceramics at the UC Crafts Center for over 20 years. Edie was a professor of child/human devel at CSUS School of Education for over 30 years. She was active in the greater Sacramento poetry community/author of two volumes of poetry as well as a prolific painter.
