Elfriede Leis's Estate Born in Germany in 1939, Elfriede lived through World War 2 in the countryside as a very young child and moved to the United States as a teenager, settling in Chicago in the 1950s. She worked for decades as a wig maker with her husband's business, Herman Leis & Son, having been apprenticed in the trade in Germany. Elfriede eventually took over the business in 1999 when her husband passed away, keeping it going until her own passing in early 2016.
