Tom Tracy was born in Portland, Maine, where he developed a fascination for the sea and boats these early influences have profoundly affected his art. He has captured his love of the sea and old New England and his paintings and drawings.
Tom showed artistic promise early in life. he began formal art training in the Portland Museum School at age 11 during his high school years in Manchester, New Hampshire. He studied at the art Institute. He went onto to the university of New Hampshire, where he continued his studies and art.
Tom began his graduate work in 1957 at UNH. From there he continued his graduate studies at Syracuse University and the. Instituto de Allende, San Miguel de Allende, the University of Guanajuato, Mexico, where he completed his masters of fine art degree (MFA) degree.
Tom’s style is unique and diversified. It has evolved through many years of striving to develop a style that is his own. Tom has never been content with traditional approaches to art. He believes the creative artist must go a step beyond. Once the basic skills of drawing and composition have been mastered, the artist must develop his own originality in visual art expression.
As an art historian, Tom recognizes that the great Masters shared one common element— they painted like no one else before them. They were daring and innovative. Their work is as unique as a thumbprint.
After decades of perfecting, his art, Tom passed away this year at the age of 95. I feel honored to have had the opportunity to meet him and his beautiful wife this year. Tom’s artistic spark, still evidenced in his facial expressions as we were awestruck by his art, touched me deeply.
The print editions are individually hand-enhanced by the artist, Tom Tracy.
These editions are not simply the result of a photographic process, which is the usual method of print reproduction. It is a hands-on process by the artist, which takes it beyond the ordinary.
First, Tom creates the original drawing. he turns the drawing over to a fine arts printer who produces a black and white print through a duo-etch process. Tom then hand-enhances each print individually with pencil, charcoal and oc-casionally, using acrylic. This time-consuming process results in a unique print.
NO TWO ARE ALIKE!
Please note-after this auction there is also a face to face sale at Tom Tracy’s House on 8/21/26 and 8/22/26. This sale will include all of the art here plus hundred more, as well as other fabulous items.
