The painting is illustrative in style, historically capturing in detail an interior scene with men in period dress, tapestries and a Persian rug draped over a Jacobean table. The painting is executed in fluid brushstrokes and a rich palette, the influence of the Dutch masters evident. The artist’s signature is found in the lower right corner and the period carved frame bears a brass placard with the title and the artist’s name in the center.

Early 19th Century Oil Portrait on Canvas After Vieira Portuense: An early-19th century European oil painting on canvas inspired by the oil painting titled Music’s Allegory by Portuguese artist Vieira Portuense (1765-1805). This painting features an oval-shaped portrait within a rectangular composition. Portrayed in an overall Neoclassical style, an idealized female figure wearing classical drapery holds a scroll in her right hand and touches a violin with her left hand. A halo encircles her decadent turban headpiece, and she is surrounded by a landscape. No signature was found on the painting. It is presented in an elaborate gold-tone wood frame with an ornate low-relief floral relief design.

Late 18th/Early 19th Century Kentucky Sugar Desk in Cherry: A fabulous late 18th/early 19th century Kentucky sugar desk in Cherry, petite in size with a desirable slant front and dovetail construction evident at the top edges. The superb desk has three side by side interior drawers affixed at the top over the open storage space and string inlay to give the illusion of four false drawers at the front, graduating in size with inverted tear drop escutcheons. A decorative border with an inlaid circular pattern at three sides of the base is an unexpected detail and the chest rests on a shallow bracket base. The sugar desk was designed to be functional and simple (keeping the expensive sugar locked and safe) yet it was often a symbol of the family’s social status. The sugar desks from Kentucky are most desirable among collectors.

Mid 20th Century Mahogany Tray Table: A mid 20th century tray table made in mahogany with hinged sides which have cut-out handles and fold down to form an oval table top if desired. The top tray is not attached to the base which has straight reeded legs. Stamped “1075” and “E780” to the under side of the base.
