Lonnie held jobs as a ranch hand and an equipment operator, eventually working for the City of Oklahoma City, Parks and Rec Department as a field Supervisor, retiring from the city after 39 years in 1995. Lonnie always had a love of horses and mules. He ran a horse- drawn carriage business that began in the 1970's and continued well into his retirement. He provided the carriages and horses in parades, weddings, and many events at both Lazy E Arena and the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Center.
