Since 1891, the original of this portrait has been reverently displayed at the Texas State Capitol in Austin.

In 1991, in commemoration of the 100th anniversary, native Texas John L Whitehead, who was living & working in Washington, D.C., commissioned a District artist to recreate a precise reproduction.

According to antiquities experts, dealers in rare art, and museum curators, THIS "Crockett" portrait is the largest privately-owned version of William Henry Huddle's masterpiece.

The renowned artist William Henry Huddle (1847-1892) lived in Texas when painting the original.

The renowned Walt Disney biographer Neal Gabler noted that the coonskin cap Crockett is holding inspired Mr. Disney to direct the film's producer, Bill Walsh, to ensure that actor Fess Parker, who played Davy Crockett, would wear a coonskin cap in nearly every scene of "Davy Crockett: King of the Wild Frontier."
