African Art - Simanis Collection, Ex McNemar

The Collection of Dr. Juris & Ingrida Simanis, Lexington, Virginia, acquired from Thomas McNemar, Lexington, Virginia. Dr. and Mrs. Simanis moved to Lexington in 1989 and quickly became friends and clients of Thomas McNemar (1931-2020), finding a common passion for the arts and material culture of Africa. McNemar lived and collected throughout Central and West Africa in the 1960s and 70s. He established galleries of African Art in New York and San Francisco, selling to museums and public and private collections in the United States and Europe.
