It's rare to find find an estate sale company whose owner is in the business because she grew up in the field and LOVES it! My family was in the antiques, collectibles, and resale business, so I have decades of experience and knowledge. My co-workers and I have a combined total of nearly 75 years in this area.
More than 20 years ago, I was attending a sale in Colorado to look for inventory for a small shop I owned. While there, I realized that along with my understanding of retail and reselling, I should have my own estate sale company because it was a way for me to be of service to others! I have always been a "helper" and this career is a natural fit for me.
Transitions - losing a loved one, having to downsize, moving into a senior care facility, and so on - are taxing in so many ways...emotionally, physically, and financially. The goal of Around the Town Estate Sales, LLC is to help alleviate those burdens. Truly, I care about making this process as simple as possible for you.
Another goal, the primary one in most cases, is to get a home on the market as quickly as possible. Estate liquidations, which are also known as tag sales, are an easy way for you to have the contents moved out with little-to-no out-of-pocket cost to you. Additionally, you will have potential home buyers come through your door!
Initially, I started out with 1-2 clients per month. Eventually, that number grew to helping approximately 40 families per year. I have not always advertised on this platform, so the number of sales showing is not in alignment with the number of sales I have managed. I have been referred by Oak Crest, Abilities Network, Let's Move, realtors with Long & Foster, Coldwell Banker, and REMAX, previous clients, family, friends, and shoppers of the sales. Eventually, I recognized that too many sales spreads us too thin. In order to give each client the utmost care and attention their situation deserves, I've restructured how many sales we accept and when they are held. We are one of the few companies in the area that runs a 3-day sale and adds days onto the sale, if time allows.
If you are seriously considering a sale, some things to keep in mind:
1. Don't throw out anything! This is the biggest mistake that families make. Often times, we see families trashing the items that would bring in the most interest and money, while keeping the things they think are valuable, which, unfortunately, aren't necessarily moving in the market.
2. Please don't invite others in to cherry-pick the contents of the home. We see this impact the outcome of your sale!
In all instances, I advise my clients to allow Around the Town to do what we need to do to put on a fabulous sale, then have the other services - trash, auction houses, etc. - brought in on the back-end of the event. We oversee all of this for you.
3. Work with an estate sale company whose focus is only on estate sales. There are estate sale companies who also have storefronts, hauling companies, and other additional business which may be a conflict of interest with the goal of selling items at the home and realizing the best return.
4. Reputable estate sale companies will remit the required sales tax for your state, provide verification of taxes paid, be registered AND in good standing with the state they are licensed, and be able to provide proof of insurance!
