This handsome platform rocker is in nice condition. Rocking chairs were very sought after in the late Victorian period and it was an innovative time for designing the rocking action. The form of chair seen here is known as a platform rocker. Designs were often patented and similar seat furniture was made in Britain. The rectangular stuffed back with a bowed cresting and the supports with carved leaf motifs on a stipple ground, the upholstered seat flanked by pierced and padded scroll arm with leaf carving, the sprung operated rocking action on splayed feet joined by stretchers. This chair comes with an appraisal report valuing it at $150.
