This is a vintage Paymaster Series X-550 check writer, manufactured by The Paymaster Corporation in Chicago, Illinois. These machines were used to imprint checks with the payee's name, amount, and other details, providing a level of security and standardization in financial transactions before the widespread adoption of electronic systems. The machine features a mechanical crank for operation and adjustable dials for inputting dollar and cent amounts. The casing appears to be made of metal with a white enamel finish, accented by chrome trim. The unit shows signs of age and use, consistent with its vintage nature, including dust and some discoloration. The model number 87C86126 is visible on the manufacturer's label.
