Philip Gladstone is a painter, draftsman and sculptor known for his evocative, and sometimes provocative, tableaux featuring an ensemble cast of nude men. Gladstone's vast body of work might be best understood as an ongoing exploration of an unconventional form of self-portraiture, the creation of sometimes surreal stage-like environments populated by characters that are stand-ins for the artist himself, characters acting out stories that reflect the artist's state of mind.
