Castle and Sun (Burg und Sonne) was painted in 1928 by the famed Swiss-German artist Paul Klee. It is a hallmark of Klee's style during his time at the Bauhaus, where he explored the relationships between color, geometry, and composition. The city skyline is constructed entirely from various geometric shapes, primarily squares, rectangles, and triangles. Klee used a rich, warm palette to create a sense of depth and rhythm, contrasting the dark background with vibrant patches of red, yellow, and blue. The large, circular sun serves as a focal point, balancing the complex, jagged "castle" structures below.
Klee’s work often bridged the gap between Expressionism, Cubism, and Surrealism, and this particular piece as replicated in the poster, remains one of his most important paintings.
