Wool Tapestry Wall Hanging
This Navajo Yei rug features the iconic Yeibichai figures, which are stylized depictions of Navajo deities used in healing ceremonies. Historically, Yei rugs emerged in the early 20th century as a departure from traditional bordered designs, emphasizing vertical figures against a neutral background. The craftsmanship involves labor-intensive hand-spinning and natural or aniline-dyed wool.
Collectors value these pieces for their cultural significance, intricate geometric storytelling, and the skill required for weaving humanoid forms.
