Westerwald Style Salt-Glazed Green Stoneware Vase
Sold by Paxem Estate Sales & Senior Move Manager
This is a substantial, wheel-thrown stoneware vase featuring a classic two-tone aesthetic characteristic of traditional German salt-glazed pottery. The upper portion is finished in a rich, deep forest green glaze with a fine crackle (crazing) pattern, while the lower section remains in the natural, unglazed buff-toned clay. The body is decorated with applied relief medallions depicting stylized floral rosettes, framed by incised, sweeping arc patterns that define the shoulder. The piece exhibits a sturdy, utilitarian form with a wide, open mouth, reflecting the historical influence of the Westerwald region's pottery traditions.
Size: 15.5"H x 8"D
