This extraordinary 1936 edition of Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass is widely considered one of the greatest masterpieces of 20th-century American book design and illustration. Issued in a strictly limited printing, this landmark fine-press volume features iconic typography, lavish bindings, and over 100 striking green-toned wood engravings and illustrations created exclusively by legendary American artist Rockwell Kent.
Each copy in this limited issue features the authentic, hand signature of Rockwell Kent on the colophon/limitation page.
🏛️ Historical & Fine Press Significance
Rockwell Kent's Artistry: Following his landmark work on the 1930 Lakeside Press Moby-Dick, Rockwell Kent spent years capturing the rugged, transcendental vision of Whitman’s poetry. His bold, line-drawn illustrations and distinctive green ink motifs make this one of his most celebrated illustrated commissions.
Masterpiece Production: Designed by W.A. Dwiggins / Lakeside Press (R.R. Donnelley & Sons) and distributed through George Macy’s Limited Editions Club, this edition represented the pinnacle of Depression-era fine typography, set in Emerson type and printed on custom rag paper stock.

Welcome and thank you for looking at our items. Please be sure to read the item description. Some items may have additional information provided.
As is the case with most estate sales, all bids and sales are as-is and final. We do our best to provide descriptions and pictures of our items so you know what you'll be receiving.
A Friendly Note on Bidding:
We want everyone to have a great experience! Please keep in mind that all bids placed are binding and final. Once a bid is entered, it cannot be retracted or cancelled. If you are the winning bidder when the hammer falls, you are responsible for completing payment for that item.
 Auction Style: Hard Close
Just a heads-up: This is a Hard Close auction. That means when the clock hits zero, the bidding is officially over—no extensions! If an item is set to end at 7:00 PM, it closes right at 7:00 PM.
Pro-Tip for a Stress-Free Finish: Things can get pretty fast and "snappy" in those final minutes! To avoid the last-minute rush (and the flood of outbid notifications), we highly recommend using the Max Bid feature.
How it works: If you bid $5 but set your Max Bid at $10, the system will only increase your bid by the smallest increment needed to keep you in the lead.
Instant Outbid Notice: If you place a bid and are immediately notified that you’ve been outbid, another bidder has already set a higher maximum (proxy) bid on that item. The system automatically bids on their behalf up to their set limit.
The Benefit: It’s much easier than manually bidding in the final seconds, especially if you’re eyeing multiple items!
 No Buyer’s Premium!
We like to keep things simple: There is no buyer’s premium added to your total at this auction.
"Estatesales.net" will charge winning bidders $2.95 to your total order.
