17th Century Manner of Alfonso Sanchez Coello

Ca. 17th/early18th century, an oil on canvas painting of a royal female figure. Contains a label on the reverse side with the name “Coello” written in ink.The surname likely refers to Alfonso Sanchez Coello (Spanish, 1532-1588). The painting was relined, a coarse burlap canvas is adhered to a finer linen canvas or fabric backing. The reverse side of the canvas reveals the lighter canvas while the sides reveal both, with what appears to be original rusted nails, as well as a second set of nails attached to the bottom canvas. The stretchers do not look new. The wood appears distressed and stained with multiple labels, former label markings, partial inscriptions, etc. The most legible label contains the name “Coello” along with other numbers. Was part of auction on July19,2020. It is very large and has a sight view of 52" X 36". Framed, measures 62" X 45.5" and weights over 30 lbs. looked at the painting with black light (UV) and we hardly noticed any modifications.
