Dutch early 20th century scene painting
Sold by Items of Value, Inc
This large oil on canvas, 28"h x 43"w, is reportedly by Dutch painter Carl Rodeck (1841-1909). It is also marked "Hamburg" after his signing in the bottom right corner. Typical of one type of subject matter at the turn of the century, this is a buccolic scene. You will discover ducks swimming in the water near water lilies in the foreground, a sunlit knoll to climb in the middle midplane among deciduous looming trees under a bright blue sky with clouds. The artist devoted much time to detailing the trees and sky. The period frame is molded dark goldtone, displaying projecting foliate ornamentation in the corners as well as mid points, 36"h x 50"w. Note some degradation in the painting in the way of minor paint flaking lower left and nail hole in the middle of one length of framing. Examination of the back of the canvas shows some patches.
