A charming paen to a bygone way of life, this highly personal, part fictional memoir resulted from the author's research into his family history. Structured around a series of letters from Lily Violett of New Orleans to her great-nephew Mally, the narrative traces the family through its maternal line. Lily describes the collapse of the South after the Civil War and the bitter period of Reconstruction. Central to the story is Lily's unrequited love affair with Englishman William Robertson. After her hopes for marriage are dashed, spinster Lily devotes herself to her sister, who marries a wealthy Philadelphian, and later to her sister's children. Many of her descriptions are magical; one letter relates how a plantation owner imported Chinese spiders for his daughter's wedding and set them free in an alley of oak trees; the webs then were sprayed with gold dust. Though sedately told, romance and tragedies pull at the heartstrings, and a picture of a family and its times is sensitively composed.

As is the case with most estate sales, all sales are as-is and final. If you fail to pick up your item at the time agreed upon ,and have not arranged for delivery, we will have to consider the piece abandoned and no refunds will be provided since the opportunity to sell the item to another customer will have passed and the house needs to be cleaned out. We do our best to provide detailed descriptions and pictures of our items so you know exactly what you'll be receiving.

Please pay your invoice with credit card and bring the confirmation number with you when you pick up the item. The number is required for us to release the item (this is how we get paid from the credit card company).
For items that are stored at the Orleans location, Storage Fees are: $5 per day, per item, and then $25 per item each week after. If the item is not picked up within 14 days, it is considered abandoned and will be disposed of in a manner of our choosing.
Delivery services are also available through a third party. Please contact us with your name and address for delivery fees and somebody will get back to you by email.
