Sold Modernist Abstract Stained Glass Window - Lot 3

Custom made for Aldersgate Church in 1971 these stained glass panels are approximately 4' x 3' and weigh approximately 60 pounds each.

This listing is for window #lot 3. It was part of a pair hung with #lot 4.
If you desire to have a complete 2 piece window (see photos) you will need to bid on both listings. They are scheduled to end 15 minutes apart.
The windows are beautiful individually and having two isn't required or necessary.

The colorful glass dalles are generally 1" thick. These hefty, rare glass slabs are similar to Blenko and were likely custom ordered from Germany at the request of the artist. Some of the glass has been strategically faceted using hand tools to enhance the sparkle effect (Dalle de Verre-style glass is also known as faceted glass). While the panel is a wonderful statement piece in natural light, it is breathtaking when backlit. The majority of backlit photos shown were created using a single LED shoplight behind the panel.

The glass dalles are held in place by a two-toned resin and sand matrix. The tan resin was the exterior-facing side of the window and the glass slabs lay flush. The charcoal resin was the interior-facing side of the window and the glass slabs protrude creating a rich 3D effect. The two-tone design (medium tan and dark charcoal grey) allows for compatibility with a variety of interior designs. The panel could be displayed inside a building or in a garden, as the resin was formulated to withstand the frigid Minnesota winters.

Since the panels are more than 50 years old and have been exposed to a variety of weather conditions, there may be staining, cracked glass, and/or other minor wear present. This piece is not weathertight. None of this normal wear detracts from its beauty and intrinsic value. The panel is approximately 4'x3' and weighs about 60 lbs. Given the size and weight of the piece, it should be secured to a wall or ground when displaying it.
