Burns-Burns-Smith Family Legacy Dr. Joe and Ava Burns, of 1305 S. Main, were influential in Jonesboro. Dr. Burns and Dr. Lutterloh invited nuns from Pocahontas to help malaria patients, leading to the founding of St. Bernard's Hospital. Ava co-founded the Twentieth Century Club. Their son, Joe, and his wife, Eva Sue Burns, lived at 1515 S. Main. In 1983, Joe received the Pioneer Award for his contributions to Arkansas' rice industry, including helping bring Riceland Foods to Jonesboro in 1933. Eva Sue was named "Woman of the Year" in 1959 .
