Hand-Knotted Hamadan Area Rug: A hand-knotted Persian Hamadan area rug. This rectilinear wool rug is rendered in a palette of cochineal red, deep midnight blue, camel, and ivory. It features a polygonal central medallion with hooks and arrow pendants over a red field. The field and spandrel areas are populated with an array of geometric symbolic motifs including complex amalgamations of pinwheels, arrows, diamonds, and florets. Framing the field are two running water guard strips and a prominent leaf and calyx patterned primary border over camel. Selvedges are single-overcast, the rug finishing in short kilim skirts and white cotton warp fringe. It rug is unmarked.
