Ended Antique Chinese Wedding Box

This antique Chinese wedding box is from the early 20th century. The wedding box was filled with gifts for the bride to be used on her wedding day and used to bring tea to the fields. This box features a hexagonal shape The support handle protrudes from two of the panels. The hexagon cover is separate from the top locking mechanism. The unique locking structure is carved and painted with an iris and leaves. The box is adorned with low-relief carvings on each panel with figurines and foliage motifs with a contrast of color and highlighted with gilt touches. Two brass bands adorn the middle and the bottom of the box. The brass bands are loose. I am unsure of the type of wood this box is made but I believe it to be teak. The box comes with a letter of Certificate from Hong Kong Arts and Furniture Co. This wonderful box is a nice size (14 1/4" wide and 11" high) as a decorative touch to any home.
