Murano, Italy – Hand-Blown Art Glass Pair
Striking Murano art glass vase with matching companion paperweight, executed in the classic sommerso (“submerged”) technique, where vibrant interior color layers are encased within thick clear glass.
The vase displays a rich deep red core surrounded by amber and clear casing, creating remarkable optical depth and light reflection. The substantial glass thickness and clarity are hallmarks of traditional Murano sommerso craftsmanship.
The companion paperweight features the same color layering and glass composition, indicating the pieces were designed and sold together as a coordinated set.
The vase’s sculptural lens form and layered coloration are characteristic of Murano studio production from the mid- to late-20th century (approximately 1960s–1980s), when sommerso glass became widely recognized as a signature Venetian technique.
The paperweight retains a Murano foil label, further supporting the Italian origin.
