Mrs Potts Cast Iron Sad Iron Detachable Wood Handle c1880

Classic Mrs. Potts-style sad iron, late 19th to early 20th century, with the iconic double-pointed cast iron sole and detachable turned wood handle patented by Mary Florence Potts in 1871. Raised lettering faintly traces the body edge. Approximately 4.5" tall by 6" long. Honest laundry-day wear throughout: paint loss, oxidation and pitting to the base, rust and residue on the sole, scuffs and minor chips to the stained handle. Knob intact, handle locks securely. A desirable primitive.
